Job Description - Analyst, Prospect Management and Research (2500198) Analyst, Prospect Management and Research Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume): Bachelor’s degree (foreign equivalent or higher). Two (2) years of full-time professional experience. Experience working in higher education, non-profit, or related fields. Proficiency using Microsoft Excel data functions (i.e. pivot tables and formulas) and/or Google Sheets. Preferred Qualifications: Experience in prospect research, development, fundraising, data analysis, and/or related fields. Experience with prospect research software (i.e. Wealth Screenings, LexisNexis, WealthEngine, Hoover’s, etc.). Experience with Raiser’s Edge or similar relational database. Experience working with ethics statements by APRA, Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE), and/or other related associations. Brief Description of Duties: The Analyst, Prospect Management and Research, supports the Prospect Management and Research team by conducting in-depth research and analysis on individuals, corporations, and foundations to advance Stony Brook University’s goals. This includes assessing prospects’ capacity to give (financial ability), affinity (connection to the organization), and propensity (likelihood to donate). They will identify prospect pools, monitor relevant public information sources, and analyze donor data to uncover potential major gift prospects or predict giving trends. Leveraging research initiatives established by the Senior Director and utilizing both internal and external data sources, the Analyst collaborates with teams such as Data Services and Development to enhance fundraising strategies. Additional duties as assigned. Prospect Research and Data Analysis: Analyze data from varied sources to enhance the Advancement team’s understanding of current and potential major gift prospects and improve donor and alumni outreach efforts. Support the identification and evaluation of prospects. Prepare tailored documents such as profiles, biographies, and project summaries, ensuring style, grammar, and content are appropriate for specific audiences. Conduct high-level research on constituents using ethical intelligence-gathering techniques and a variety of sources, including online databases, internet resources, library and government records, and other external repositories of public information. Prospect Data Tracking and Integrity: Maintain a high level of data accuracy and integrity, ensuring all elements are properly communicated and archived for future reporting and retrieval. Manage data with the utmost sensitivity, adhering to Stony Brook Foundation and University policies and procedures. Handle highly sensitive information with confidentiality and tact, upholding donor trust and data integrity at all times. Prospect Management: Assist the Development department with fundraising initiatives by identifying and reviewing prospects for campaign and ongoing programmatic support. Update and monitor the donor continuum, including contacts, solicitations, proposal schedules, and prospect assignments. Ensure prospect knowledge updates—such as ratings, interests, and linkages acquired through research—are accurately preserved and maintained in a database accessible to campus-wide fundraising staff, supporting future cultivation strategies.
