Job Description

Customer Service Coordinator

Location: Northbrook, IL

Schedule: Full-Time | 7:00 AM – 4:00 PM or 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Pay: $20–$22 per hour

Employment Type: Direct Hire (Temp-to-Perm option available)

Job Purpose

The Customer Service Coordinator ensures effective communication and coordination with customers within the Value Stream while meeting expectations and supporting on-time production. This hands-on role requires an individual who thrives on the production floor—organizing schedules, monitoring workflow, and facilitating collaboration between customer service, production, and logistics teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Enter and manage customer orders using the Odyssey system (industry-specific system for metalworking).
  • Communicate with customers primarily via email and limited phone contact (approx. 5%).
  • Support production scheduling and logistics through internal planning systems to ensure timely order fulfillment.
  • Work with the Team Leader to determine production priorities based on the master production schedule and customer requirements.
  • Partner with the Value Stream Facilitator to manage customer inquiries, order updates, and deliveries.
  • Assist with logistical tasks such as inventory entry, kanban card updates, and labeling.
  • Actively participate on the production floor to ensure processes run smoothly and customer needs are met.
  • Support and contribute to Lean Manufacturing initiatives (training provided).
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to identify and resolve issues affecting scheduling, quality, or delivery.
  • Contribute to overall team performance and continuous improvement efforts.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Must have prior customer service experience within a manufacturing environment; industrial products background strongly preferred.
  • Experience supporting production scheduling or planning activities.
  • Proficiency with order entry and logistics coordination; Odyssey system experience a strong plus.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and follow-up skills; ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish required (Spanish fluency is a major plus).
  • Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing principles preferred; willingness to learn and apply Lean tools.
  • Ability to travel domestically to visit customers or vendors if needed.
  • Demonstrated independence, judgment, and ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced production environment.
