POSITION OVERVIEW
The First Baptist Church of Glenarden (FBCG) is seeking a strategic, mission-driven Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to lead and oversee the financial functions of the church and its affiliates. This executive role will support the Senior Pastor, Elders, and other senior leaders in stewarding the financial health of the organization, ensuring sound fiscal management, regulatory compliance, and alignment with the church’s spiritual and operational goals.
The CFO will provide strategic leadership to the Finance Department, oversee budgeting, forecasting, accounting, investment planning, audit readiness, and financial reporting. The ideal candidate will bring a blend of financial acumen, executive-level leadership, and a heart for ministry.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Serve as the principal financial advisor to the Senior Pastor, Elders, COO and CMO.
Provide executive oversight of accounting, budgeting, auditing, payroll, investments, and cash flow management.
Lead the Finance Department, including direct supervision of the Controller and other key financial staff.
Ensure compliance with GAAP and all applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
Oversee the preparation and presentation of accurate and timely financial reports and dashboards.
Support and advise the Finance Committee and the Board of Elders on financial matters.
Develop and implement financial strategies to support FBCG’s mission and long-term sustainability.
Lead financial planning and analysis to inform strategic decisions and ministry expansion.
Oversee the annual external audit and ensure timely completion of the annual Form 990.
Collaborate cross-functionally with ministry and operational departments to optimize financial performance and stewardship.
LEADERSHIP QUALIFICATIONS
Must be saved, submitted to the authority of the Senior Pastor, and either a current member in good standing or willing to become a member of FBCG.
Must possess a heart for ministry and align with the mission, values, and culture of FBCG.
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA required, MBA preferred.
Minimum 10 years of progressive financial leadership experience, with at least 5 years in a senior/executive role; experience in a church or nonprofit environment strongly preferred.
Strong knowledge of nonprofit fund accounting and financial reporting standards.
Demonstrated success in leading financial strategy and operational effectiveness.
Knowledge of NetSuite and NextProcess, or similar systems preferred.
Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
Effective communicator with ability to present complex financial data to non-financial audiences.
Experience working with volunteer teams and governing boards.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Excel), accounting systems, and financial reporting tools.
