Position Overview

An established agricultural organization, known for its dedication to delivering high-quality produce since 1969, is seeking a Controller to lead its accounting and finance operations. This role is ideal for a seasoned financial professional ready to take ownership of core financial functions while preparing for a future CFO position. Reporting to senior leadership, the Controller will manage a small team and play a critical role in strengthening the company’s financial infrastructure to support continued growth and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Leadership & Reporting

• Direct all aspects of financial reporting to ensure compliance with GAAP and internal standards
• Prepare and deliver accurate financial statements on a weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual basis
• Resolve complex accounting issues and provide cross-functional guidance

Operational Finance & Internal Controls

• Maintain and enhance internal control systems to safeguard company assets
• Manage the general ledger, monthly close processes, accruals and bank reconciliations
• Lead daily cash reporting and forecasting to ensure liquidity and financial stability

Audit & Compliance

• Coordinate all external audit and year-end review processes in collaboration with the CPA firm
• Monitor evolving regulatory requirements and implement necessary compliance procedures
• Research and interpret accounting policies to ensure consistency and clarity across departments

Process Optimization & Team Leadership

• Identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities across financial processes
• Guide and mentor a small finance team, fostering professional growth and high performance
• Oversee EDI transaction processing and ensure accurate integration with financial systems

Education & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance
• 5–8 years of progressive accounting experience, with a minimum of two years in a similar leadership role
• Proficiency in GAAP and cost accounting principles
• Experience with EDI transaction systems and financial reporting software
• Strong Microsoft Excel, Access, Word and PowerPoint skills
