Job Title: Estate Caretaker

Location: Northeast Ohio

Position Type: Full-Time, Permanent

Reports to: The Facilities Manager

Hours: On-site, Monday – Friday 8:00 AM – 6:00 PM

We seek a highly skilled, dedicated Estate Caretaker to ensure the property’s appearance and functionality meet the highest standards, akin to world-class resorts.

Job Description: The Estate Caretaker will be responsible for maintaining the beauty, cleanliness, and operational efficiency of the estate grounds, ensuring all facilities and surrounding areas are kept to five-star resort standards. This includes managing the landscaping, upkeep of structures, and daily grounds maintenance for multiple buildings. The ideal candidate will possess strong attention to detail, a passion for excellence, and an exceptional work ethic.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Grounds Maintenance:
  • Maintain pristine landscaping, including lawns, flower beds, gardens, trees, and hedges.
  • Ensure all outdoor spaces, such as walking paths, pools, terraces, and recreational areas, are cleaned, maintained, and properly landscaped.
  • Seasonal planting, pruning, and maintaining outdoor greenery and foliage to ensure vibrant year-round aesthetics.
  • Regularly inspect and manage irrigation systems, ensuring they are functioning properly and efficiently.
  1. General Estate Maintenance:
  • Perform general upkeep of the buildings, including regular cleaning, maintenance, and minor repairs of outdoor structures, patios, and walkways.
  • Oversee the estate’s exterior lighting, ensuring proper functioning and optimal lighting ambiance.
  • Ensure that all outdoor furniture, decor, and amenities are clean, in good condition, and properly arranged.
  1. Pool & Spa Management:
  • Ensure the pool and surrounding areas are maintained to pristine standards, including cleaning, water quality testing, and equipment checks.
  • Care for outdoor hot tubs, spas, and water features, ensuring all systems are in working order.
  1. Equipment & Inventory Management:
  • Oversee and maintain estate grounds equipment, ensuring tools and machinery are well-kept and ready for use.
  • Keep inventory of landscaping tools, materials, and supplies and coordinate replenishment as needed.
  1. Coordination with Estate Management:
  • Work closely with the Facilities Manager to coordinate tasks and maintain a well-organized work schedule.
  • Report any issues regarding infrastructure, machinery, or safety concerns to management immediately.
  • Assist with coordinating any external contractors or service providers when necessary (e.g., pest control, heavy equipment repair).
  1. Security & Safety:
  • Maintain the safety and security of the grounds, ensuring gates, fences, and outdoor structures are secure.
  • Adhere to safety protocols for handling equipment and materials.
  1. Guest & Event Support:
  • Provide support for private events or visits, ensuring outdoor areas are prepared and maintained.
  • Respond promptly to any special requests or needs of guests staying on the estate.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Basic knowledge of household mechanics and construction.
  • Basic knowledge of handyman repairs.
  • Specialized knowledge relating to property caretaking is a plus (i.e., landscaping, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, painting, etc.).
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment.
  • Experience working in a luxury setting with high attention to detail.
  • Ability to anticipate the needs and desires of the principals and be proactive with property care.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite is a plus.

Other Requirements:

  • Work well in a team setting and take direction but also handle projects independently and take initiative.
  • Be receptive to constructive feedback and accountability.
  • Perform duties outside the normal scope of work to assist other departments as needed.
  • Maintain a positive and supportive attitude in the workplace.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience working in property caretaking or a similar field.
  • Flexibility to work on weekends, holidays, or irregular hours, as needed.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to operate trucks, golf carts, power tools, and landscaping equipment.
  • Must be able to lift up to 75 lbs.
  • Must be able to work outside in all weather conditions.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as an Estate Caretaker, Groundskeeper, or in a similar role, preferably in a luxury or resort-style environment.
  • Strong knowledge of landscaping, gardening, irrigation systems, and outdoor facility maintenance.
  • Experience with pool and spa maintenance is preferred.
  • Ability to operate and maintain outdoor equipment such as lawnmowers, trimmers, and other landscaping tools.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and a passion for excellence in all tasks.
  • Physical stamina and ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
