Overview

A Community Voice is seeking a Louisiana Statewide Organizer based in New Orleans, LA. This full-time role involves building a statewide coalition for climate and environmental justice, engaging grassroots groups, supporting campaigns, and facilitating meetings. Status: Full-Time
Location: Louisiana (based in New Orleans)

Compensation:

• $15/hour during training
• $20/hour after successful completion of training
• Annual wage evaluation (sooner if warranted)
• Benefits:
• 8 paid holidays annually
• Paid vacation: 1 week after 1st year, 2 weeks after 2nd year, 3 weeks after 5th year, 4 weeks after 10th year

Role Overview

Anthropocene Alliance (A2) is the nations largest coalition of frontline communities fighting for climate and environmental justice, with over 400 member communities across 54 U.S. states and territories. We work to educate, organize, and support grassroots leaders with funding, grant management, and technical assistance to confront corporate pollution and government inaction.

To expand our impact, A2 is launching State Organizing Committees (SOCs) in key states, including Louisiana. These SOCs bring together grassroots groups to share resources, strengthen capacity, coordinate statewide campaigns, and build long-term power. Field organizers serve as key connectorshelping groups grow their base, win local victories, access funding and training, and connect with policymakers.

The Louisiana Statewide Organizer will play a critical role in launching and building the Louisiana SOC. This position requires a motivated individual with a deep commitment to environmental justice, social equity, and community organizing.

Key Responsibilities

• SOC Development: Help build and maintain a cohesive statewide coalition of Louisiana-based grassroots groups focused on climate and environmental justice.
• Field Engagement: Conduct regular outreach to A2 member groups through in-person visits, phone calls, and video meetings to assess needs, offer support, and build relationships.
• Base Building: Support grassroots partners with door-to-door outreach, public events, canvassing, and other community engagement tactics to grow their local power.
• Campaign Support: Assist member groups with developing and executing campaigns that reflect their prioritiesfighting industrial pollution, demanding equitable disaster response, or protecting wetlands and water systems.
• Data and Research: Gather and analyze information from communities and partners to inform organizing strategy and campaign planning.
• Member Recruitment: Identify and recruit additional grassroots organizations in Louisiana to join A2 and the Louisiana SOC.
• Meeting Facilitation: Organize and facilitate regular SOC meetings to coordinate actions, share updates, and plan collectively.
• Reporting: Provide regular updates and written reports to the Field Director and other A2 leadership as needed.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated commitment to climate, environmental, and racial justice
• Strong interpersonal and communication skillsable to engage and inspire people from diverse backgrounds
• Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and think strategically
• Willingness to travel regularly throughout Louisiana and occasionally out of state (travel costs covered by A2)
• Access to reliable transportation and a quiet space for phone and video calls
• Grassroots organizing experience is a plus, but not requiredwe will provide training

Expectations for All A2 Staff

• Commit to working with frontline, underserved communities to advance environmental and climate justice
• Remain flexible and responsive to member needsthis may include switching between administrative work, coalition calls, public events, or direct support for campaigns
• Travel to community meetings, convenings, or conferences when necessary
• Work out of member group offices occasionally for collaboration or campaign support

The Louisiana Statewide Organizer should expect to spend at least 20 hours per week in direct engagement with SOC members (via visits, phone, or video). A typical work week is up to 40 hours, generally during standard business hoursbut some flexibility is required to accommodate evening or weekend meetings, campaign actions, or urgent community needs.
