The Nurse Technician is a nursing student employed by Summit Pacific Medical Center 18:51 RCW, who is currently enrolled in good standing in a nursing program approved by the commission and has not graduated or is a graduate of a nursing program approved by the commission who graduated within the last 30 days or within the past sixty days and has received determination from the secretary that there is good cause to continue the registration period, as defined by the secretary in rule. Duties and Responsibilities include maintaining requirements to qualify for employment as a nursing technician, following scope of practice as defined in WAC’s and facility standards, functioning only under the direct supervision of a registered nurse who agrees to act as supervisor and is immediately available, performing specific nursing functions based upon and limited to current nursing education and verified ability, assuming responsibility for accurate and timely administration of medications except chemotherapy, intravenous medications, and scheduled drugs, practicing 8 rights of medication administration, evaluating effects and noting side effects of all medications, procedures, and treatments administered and reporting to the RN Supervisor, notifying the RN when any medication, procedure, or treatment that the nursing technician cannot perform is due, keeping RN, Unit Manager, Charge Nurse aware of changing Patient/Resident needs, documenting according to all established policies and procedures, ensuring physician orders are transcribed and carried out accurately and promptly, safeguarding Patient/Resident rights and dignity, assisting with prompt responses to call lights, assisting other team members to ensure plan of care is followed, fluid and dietary needs are met, patients are positioned, clean and well groomed, rehabilitative programs adhered to, safety maintained, reporting any alleged incidents or abuse immediately, providing hands on care in transfers, ADL’s, comfort, hygiene, and nutritional needs, ensuring patients are ready to receive services timely, safeguarding belongings, ensuring safety policies are followed, practicing excellent stewardship of supplies, and other general abilities including understanding policies, confidentiality, reliable attendance, teamwork, problem solving, initiative, and competent documentation skills. Required qualifications include a High School Diploma or equivalent and enrollment in a Nursing Program or graduation within the last 30 days. Work shift is RN Contract 12 hour shifts in a 40 hour work week. Location is Elma, Washington.
