ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:

This is a faculty position responsible to the Chairman of the Department of Surgical Oncology.

GENERAL DUTIES:

Provides clinical expertise in patient care management and an appropriate teaching environment for fellows, residents and students in the specialty of surgical oncology with an emphasis on Melanoma. Will integrate his/her research efforts into the existing melanoma surgery program and will take a leadership role in that program. CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: % EFFORT Administration Serve on departmental, divisional and institutional committees as requested by the Chairman. Complete appropriate paperwork or documents in a timely manner as required by institutional or departmental policy. Actively participate in section or departmental clinical programs or meetings. Adheres to all institutional and medical staff policies, procedures, rules and regulations. Education/Teaching Provide a balanced and integrated educational program in the surgical sciences for fellows, residents and students who rotate through the surgical oncology services. Attend and participate in Division/Department teaching and continuing education conferences including but not limited to Grand Rounds and Morbidity & Mortality conferences. Provide a teaching environment in the out-patient, in-patient, and operating room settings. Complete written evaluations of performance of fellows, residents and students. Attend and participate in monthly faculty meetings and the annual retreat. Clinical Research Actively engage in basic or clinical (including outcomes/health services) research and scholarly activity to enhance the academic environment of the Department and the Institution. Develop programs of research activities in keeping within the goals of the Department. Seek appropriate intramural and extramural funding mechanisms to support basic/clinical/outcomes research activities through the development of grant proposals. Provide an educational research environment for postdoctoral fellows, surgical oncology fellows, residents and students. Develop collaborative efforts in the specific area of research interest. Document research findings through the publication of results in peer reviewed journals and presentations at national meetings. Service Represent the Department by participating or presenting at local, regional, state, and national meetings in the field of surgical oncology and melanoma. Practice clinical surgery in an exemplary manner in standards set forth by the Texas State Board of Medical Examiners, and the American Board of Surgery properly balanced with other academic activities. Develop and maintain a clinical practice for patients with colorectal disease/tumors referred to M. D. Anderson Cancer Center. Provide physician staffing for the outpatient clinic and the inpatient service at a level commensurate with that provided by other surgeons with the same level of training and experience. Correspond as appropriate in writing or in telephone conversations with referring physicians regarding patient care and treatment. Keep abreast of current approaches in the management of patients through attendance at continuing education conferences in the specialty. Provide a role model in surgical oncology as a practitioner for faculty, fellows, residents and students rotating on the service. Provide peer review for assessing the clinical practice of faculty within the Department.

Doctorate-level degree in a field appropriate to faculty role Department mission Licensed to practice State of Texas Board certified (or obtained within departmental timeline), unless exempted Five years post clinical degree with any combination of time as a: clinician, clinical scientist or GME trainee Work Location: Onsite This position has a target base salary of $324,514 to $652,968 and is eligible for incentive compensation, comprehensive health, wellness, time off, savings, and retirement benefits, as well as relocation support, as applicable.
