The Patient Care Tech (PCT) provides direct patient care under the guidance of the Registered Nurse or designated health care professional in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations and within the policies, procedures, and guidelines of the organization. Essential Job Functions include providing basic patient care such as care and comfort, vital sign measurement, personal care and hygiene, and assisting with mobility including unit-based specialty duties. Acts as liaison between patient and nurse to report changes and/or concerns. Provides high-level customer service to patients, families, visitors, and employees. Provides accurate, precise, timely documentation for patient care. Participates in hand-off/report of pertinent information regarding patient and departmental needs. Performs delegated tasks once competency has been validated. Mobilizes patients using therapeutic transfer techniques fostering independence and safety. Encourages patients to complete tasks independently. Individualizes care based on patient's interests and hobbies. Licensing/Certification requires BLS Basic Life Support (preferred upon hire, must obtain prior to direct patient care) and completion of nursing aide training or equivalent experience. Recent experience in acute care or related settings preferred. Skills include communication, understanding healthcare team directions, knowledge of safety standards, infection prevention, clerical duties, teamwork, patient data collection, basic hygiene care, feeding assistance, ambulation, use of clinical technology, compassionate care, and accountability. Working conditions may include high stress, exposure to physical and verbal abuse, use of physical restraints, exposure to hazardous substances, and frequent interruptions. Physical requirements include lifting, pushing, stooping, crawling, climbing, balance, bending, sitting, walking, and standing. Additional hazards include exposure to chemicals, mechanical parts, electrical shock, and high noise levels. Patient population ranges from neonates to geriatrics.
