About The Role

At OpenAI, we're committed to advancing AI safely and reliably. We seek Research Engineers to help build our trust and safety capabilities.

In this role, you’ll work closely with engineers, researchers, and data scientists to create and improve safety mitigations via model training and ML systems work. You'll be at the forefront of ensuring AI's responsible and sustainable use.

In This Role, You Will

  1. Innovate and Deploy: Design and deploy advanced ML models, implement safety measures at various stages, including data filtration, evaluation, deployment safety, and monitoring.
  2. Collaborate with the Best: Work with researchers, engineers, and product managers to solve complex challenges and deliver AI solutions.
  3. Optimize and Scale: Implement scalable data pipelines, optimize models for performance, and ensure readiness for production.
  4. Learn and Lead: Stay updated with latest ML developments, participate in code reviews, share knowledge, and uphold high engineering standards.
  5. Make a Difference: Monitor deployed models to ensure ongoing value and safety, influencing AI's benefits for society.

You Might Thrive In This Role If You

  • Are passionate about AI safety and improving AI model safety for real-world applications.
  • Have experience in deep learning and transformer models.
  • Proficient in frameworks like PyTorch or TensorFlow.
  • Strong in data structures, algorithms, and software engineering principles.
  • Familiar with training and fine-tuning large language models, including distillation, supervised fine-tuning, and policy optimization.
  • Can collaborate effectively across research, product, and engineering teams.
