We are hiring on behalf of our client for a Mechanical Designer with strong SolidWorks experience. This is a full-time contract position offering remote work flexibility with occasional onsite meetings or travel as required.
Position Summary:
We’re seeking a skilled Mechanical Designer with extensive experience in 3D CAD modeling using SolidWorks. This role involves creating and managing detailed fabrication and construction drawings, ensuring accuracy, code compliance, and constructability. The ideal candidate is also a strong communicator who can collaborate across departments and mentor junior designers.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop and refine 3D CAD models for structural steel, mechanical systems, and assemblies.
Create accurate fabrication, erection, and assembly drawings from engineering specifications and field input.
Translate engineering calculations and concepts into shop-ready deliverables.
Ensure drawings comply with industry codes, internal standards, and project specifications.
Coordinate with engineering, procurement, fabrication, QC, and construction teams to resolve design issues.
Maintain drafting standards and implement best practices.
Mentor junior designers and support design reviews and process improvements.
Travel occasionally to job sites or fabrication facilities for design support and field verification.
Required Qualifications:
7+ years of 3D CAD design experience in mechanical, structural, or industrial settings.
Strong proficiency in SolidWorks; CSWP certification preferred.
Solid understanding of fabrication methods, welding standards, and construction practices.
Deep knowledge of material properties and detailing for fabrication.
Ability to manage multiple design priorities and work effectively across projects.
Strong communication skills and experience mentoring others.
Preferred Experience:
Background in structural steel, tanks, or pressure vessel design.
Familiarity with ASME, AWS, AWWA, ACI, ASCE, and AISC standards.
Experience using SolidWorks for project coordination.
Knowledge of fabrication shop workflows and field installation practices.
Proficiency with nesting software (e.g., ProNest).
Cross-functional collaboration with engineering, project management, sales, and field teams.
