Job Description

Plan and oversee the technical design (scenery, lighting and sound) and installation for major theatrical and performing arts productions in the David O McKay Auditorium and Little Theatre. Coordinate and provide for each of them the technical and staging support required as well as for other events in these venues. Serve as contact person for FM’s and IT’s routine maintenance of the facilities and technical support equipment and recommend service and repair and replacement of said facilities and equipment and coordinate the planning and work required for upgrades and improvement. Teach technical Theatre (THEA 142) once a year as adjunct faculty. Primary Responsibilities include: Technical Theatre Design and Installation (70%) - Direct and manage technical operations of theatre productions or performing arts in the main theatre venues; work with theatre director/faculty and music faculty in set, lighting and sound design for performances; maintain scene shops, construct and install sets/lighting/sound devices; serve as building supervisor after hours or during productions; supervise student assistants/ushers; teach technical Theatre class once a year. Coordinating (20%) - Coordinate with FM and IT on maintenance and repairs; recommend equipment replacement; coordinate event scheduling; maintain and secure facilities. Monitoring Safety Codes (10%) - Work with Campus Safety Coordinator on fire regulations, safety and security; implement risk management procedures; develop preventative maintenance policies; coordinate HVAC maintenance. Minimum qualifications include a Master's degree in technical theatre preferred or bachelor's with 6-8 years experience in production or technical management; technical theatre director level skills; valid Hawaii driver's license. Skills required include knowledge in set, lighting, sound design and installation, familiarity with theatrical production duties, proficiency in Word and Excel, and ability to teach and supervise students and staff. Physical demands include lifting up to 80 pounds, climbing ladders and working at heights. The position is affiliated with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and requires a current temple recommend for members of the Church.
